Executive

President

Levannia Lildhar

Levannia Lildhar is a fourth year biotechnology student.  She is currently a student researcher in the Catelas Lab where she studies orthopedic bioengineering. In her spare time she volunteers with the University of Ottawa Best Buddies chapter.
As the president of Women in Science and Engineering this year Levannia hopes to expand the WISE community providing useful and interesting events for its members.

Vice-President Finances

Valérie Lemieux

Valérie Lemieux is a fourth year Biochemistry student here at UOttawa, serving this year as the VP Finance of WISE, and one of the few science students on the executive this year. She has joined WISE this year to network with students and professionals in her field. When donning her lab coat Valérie’s main mission is to figure out how things work, with a particular interest in the workings of proteins. When out and about she enjoys the study of history, music, film and especially food. Like many in science and engineering Valérie does have a preferred writing implement (the papermate flexgrip ultra, fine — despite the fact that I would argue its inferiority to the Uni Jetstream 101), and once had eight teeth removed to straighten that smile.

Zohra Kassam

Zohra Kassam is currently in her second year in the Honour’s Health Sciences program. She hails from Toronto, Ontario. She aspires to graduate as a pediatrician and work internationally with Medécins Sans Frontièrs and the Aga Khan Development Network. She is also an avid graphic designer, and during the past summer she was the Art Director of the University of Ottawa’s Fulcrum Newspaper. Presently, she volunteers with the Red Cross as a Disaster Management Volunteer. She is currently working on her personal website, www.zohrakassam.com, which will showcase her visual portfolio. As Co -VP Social of WISE, Zohra is thrilled to plan awesome events this year and offer her talents and skills to the WISE community!

Vice-President Outreach

Colette Joubarne

I have a B.Sc in Computer Science, a B.A. in Psychology and 20 years of experience in the high-tech industry. I am a full-time M.Sc student in Computer Science with an interest in Natural Language Processing and data mining, and am working on a joint project with the Psycho-linguistics department.I am also a mother of three teenagers, who when not volunteering as coach, trainer, manager, photographer or chauffeur for various soccer, hockey and rugby teams, I volunteer as webmaster for a not-for-profit organization and am VP of Education for a newly chartered bilingual Toastmasters club. I have been involved with my daughters in programs such as CAGIS and Go Eng Girl, and I first joined WISE while working as a software designer. Over the past 20 years, I have seen an increase in the high-tech industry of female participation. However, as a current student I was astonished that in a class of 18 students, I was the only female. Apparently, there is still some work to be done.

Vice-President Communication

Kae Bagg

Caitlin ‘Kae’ Bagg is the third-and-a-half year double major in Philsophy and Computer Science with an award winning smirk. And before you ask, she does promise that if you think for a few minutes Philosophy and Computer Science together do work. This year’s VP Communications it is primarily her job to inform you about the goings on of WISE, including this wonderful trip through the website. Academically, Kae’s interests are in the philosophy of technology with a particular interest in artificial intelligence, though she has been known to whip up a logical proof, complain about Hume, and poke around computer security as well. When not so academically inclined it is far easier to find her writing prose (poorly), playing the guitar (significantly more poorly), or playing the video games (less poorly). A crusader for exclusive Uni Jetstream 101 black pen use and a piss poor blogger Kae hopes you don’t run her out of office on a rail this year.
